While thinking of popular e-commerce marketplaces, AliExpress is of the few that come to mind.

AliExpress is an international online marketplace which encompasses both small-scale retailers and wholesalers from countries around the globe. Suppliers are not left out. It deals with comprehensive product selections and gives a lead to buyers to buy directly from suppliers and manufacturers from China.

Its main product categories comprise fashion and accessories, mobile, consumer electronics, jewelry and watches, home and garden, appliances, toys, outdoor, beauty and health, automobiles and motorcycles, home improvement, tools, among many others.

AliExpress is owned by Alibaba. Alibaba is a global eCommerce company that is based in China.

AliExpress presents itself as an online retailer. But most of its sellers understand that a large number of buyers are resellers and drop shippers. An instance can be seen in the case of thousands of retailers coming together to combine Shopify (one of the best online store apps) with AliExpress to run a dropshipping business. Rakuten, Amazon, and eBay are few of numerous rivals of AliExpress.

AliExpress Affiliate Program

Anyone can join any of AliExpress several affiliate programs. AliExpress portal is a self-hosted platform that uses proprietary affiliate tracking software. It has offers listed on affiliate networks comprising FlexOffers and CJ Affiliate.

AliExpress Affiliate Program Benefits

Aliexpress is a global and trustworthy website visited by many people from all parts of the world. It is excellent in the area of delivery, value, payment option, buyer protection, among many others. It also provides a 24/7 customer help center. Sellers have a wide range of products to choose from. Also, buyers have the option of viewing sellers’ profiles to know how reputable a seller is, and how long he has joined the site. Its customer feedback rating is beneficial.

Its affiliate commission rate is fair. Affiliates can earn up to 9% on standard products. Unique events, sales promotions, and hot-selling commodities pay up to 90%. Affiliates also stand to earn new buyer conversion fees of up to $4.0 per user.

AliExpress has a low payout threshold. The minimum you can withdraw is $16. Withdrawal is made on or before the 20th of every month. Every withdrawal has a processing fee of $15.

To monitor your site accomplishment, you can create an ID. If you have more than a site, you can have an ID for each to oversee their statistics and outcomes.

It offers deep linking. Deep linking is the process of an affiliate to create a link for a particular page on the dealer’s site. This enables you to link directly to an article that interests you, instead of using a generic homepage affiliate link.

There is a wide variety of Ad banners to choose from. Dynamic Ad banner works on your visitor’s behavior on the AliExpress site. It updates on this principle and updates automatically to show relevant goods.

Program Shortcomings

Their Commission is limited. With AliExpress, you cannot earn more than $50 on a sale. This shows that if you are entitled to a commission above $50 on a sale, you are only paid $50. This is a drawback to many people.

Another area of shortcoming is their cookie length. AliExpress has a cookie length of 3 days. This shows that you can only earn if a visitor buys within 3 days of clicking on your link. This is not good enough when compared to a 30-day cookie offered by many other merchants.

The AliExpress landing page needs improvement. A proper landing page has to be informative. It only contains the commission rate. This is another area where AliExpress lacks kudos. Their FAQs and help center which are supposed to be on the landing page are found on the portal.

Also, the landing page lacks an interesting design. It contains multiple fonts, font size and even contains grammatical omissions. They also make available a link to an inactive Facebook page about the affiliate program. This does not sound well.

One of their greatest shortcomings is that their help center is not as helpful as one would expect.

Some glaring observations on the site are:

  • The affiliate fee payment page is flooded with multiple active dates, fonts, font sizes, and grammatical blunders.
  • Questions are answered wrongly on the top questions page.
  • The affiliate member level page, which is purposefully designed to help affiliates optimize their achievement, sketches a useless scheme.
  • The content on the latest news page belongs to somewhere else. Also, the news feed and the help center, which should contain the same content, do not mirror each other.

The affiliate portal, most times, seems buggy. I have had several weird experiences with the portal. For instance, if you try to log out, you will automatically be logged in again. And many times, if you try returning to the homepage, you will automatically be logged out.

Making Money

If I am to answer the question “Can you make $1000 per month on the AliExpress affiliate program?”, I will say ‘NO’. The low commission and 3-day cookie will make your effort fruitless. The limited commission, which is capped at $50, also draws you back from earning significantly. Though the payout threshold of $16 is fair, the $15 processing fee is another shortcoming.

How the program is being managed is also not encouraging. It is disassembled, scattered, and not well organized. This prompts one to question its efficiency. More so, the software is buggy and worse compared to other tracking software.


In conclusion, it is advisable that if you want to go into promoting AliExpress, skip the self-hosted program and consider the FlexOffers or CJ Affiliate.

This will earn you a lower commission rate, but at least, you will learn in the areas of program management, tracking software, reporting, and many more.

    Thank you for reviewing the AliExpress affiliate program. It had crossed my mind before, but I never fully looked into it. I’m glad now that I didn’t. I don’t mind the 3-day cookie length, but the $50 cutoff is unimpressive. Poor grammar in the instructions and interpretations run across the whole site. If someone is above ground with their clients and customers, they will hire someone who knows the second language well enough to avoid laughable screwups. They don’t even bother with Grammarly. I have no problem with foreign marketers not having fluent grammar, but some hardly even try.

    Hi There! While I don’t have specific experience with this affiliate program, I’m very impressed by the sheer number of products and global reach that the program offers. I currently use Avantlink to manage most of my affiliate relationships, but that’s because I operate primarily in the outdoor recreation niche. I like the fact that this program offers a low payout threshold, but the lack of solid support that you point out is a large red flag. After reading your review, I’d agree that there are other affiliate programs out there that will allow us to be more successful. Thanks for the thorough review!

    I personally haven’t signed up with AliExpress. So, this is definitely a good source to find out about the program. It gives me a balance point of view between pros and cons to decide if I would like to join AliExpress Affiliate program or not. With the size of Alibaba company, I’m surprised how the shortcomings exist as you mentioned especially 3 days cookie length and the landing page.

    Well, I was going to say, “Great.  Another Affiliate contact we might be able to subscribe to” but, after reading about the Limites on Commission, short cookie length, inactive facebook page, help center/client service and other difficulties you have listed, I’m thinking these folks have a lot of work to do if they are going to stay afloat and keep the “Affiliates” they do have. 

    These are all real concerns and certainly won’t be good for their reputation in the marketplace.  Maybe this is one to stay away from.

    I hope they can get their act together soon before it’s too late.


    P.S.  I noticed a possible typo at the top concerning your comment about “Source of customer: over 200 million countries and regions”.  Could that possibly be “200 countries”?

    I was looking into signing up with them. I do like that you can get up to 90% off of hot-selling commodities. And 9% on standard items. But having to pay a $15 processing fee for EVERY withdrawal is not cool.. at…all. I feel like that is robbery. I guess one would have to be wise about when they withdraw. I don’t like a lot about this affiliate program. 

    And it is not that I am bashing them. I give credit where credit is due. And it is not due to this program at all. Where do I start? How is a person suppose to make a living if they cannot earn more than $50 on a sale. The 3 day cookie is not inviting at all.

    Although I have known AliExpress for a very long time now. As a matter of fact, I have sourced for items several times in the website and I think AliExpress is an awesome e-commerce platform. However, I never knew much about its commission rate and Affiliate policies. I guess this won’t favour me. I won’t consider AliExpress as part of the Affiliate programs I will participate in as a new blogger.
