How YouTube Algorithm Promotes Your Video Through Search

If there’s anything that video creators should take seriously, it is the YouTube algorithm. That’s because it is responsible for driving at least 70% traffic of viewers.
This it does by serving highly relevant and personalized videos to users. There are 5 different sections used by the YouTube algorithm to serve results to viewers. These sections are Search, Home, Suggested Videos, Trending, and Subscriptions.

The goal of YouTube is to keep viewers on the platform for as long as possible.
The key to optimizing your videos for YouTube search results include creating proper titles and descriptions of your videos.
Others are having contents that match viewers’ queries, how long viewers have watched on your channel, and the last time they watched videos with similar topics.

YouTube also takes very serious 2 important metrics. These are watch time and session time of viewers on YouTube.
Watch time takes into account the time spent by viewers watching your videos. While session time is the total amount of time viewers spend on YouTube.
Here are 9 proven tips to help you improve user engagement, and grow your audience on YouTube.

1. Optimize Your Videos for Google Traffic

Google still accounts for more than half of new visitors – whether to blogs, e-commerce stores, or videos.
Optimizing your videos for Google’s SERPs symbolizes using keywords in topics, video content, and description.

2. Rank Higher on YouTube Search

Getting your videos at the top of YouTube’s SERPs for particular keywords gives you massive exposure.
The most important thing to note is that YouTube ranks videos and channels based on relevance.
As a video creator, you need to work on featuring relevant keywords in the title and description of your video. Also, include captions and subtitles directly related to your keywords.

Based on the watch time metric, YouTube considers the length of time a viewer spends with your video. By measuring this with your video length, YouTube can determine if your content was relevant to the viewer.
This interaction will determine how your video is ranked in subsequent search results.

3. Create a Video Series

If you’ve created standalone videos that appealed to viewers, imagine the effect of a video series.
You can weave out a series at regular intervals, creating momentum along the way.
One piece of advice though, create buzz around your video series before releasing them. With this set up, you would create anticipation, and increase the number of your channel subscribers.

4. Collaborate, not Complete

If you want to get the attention of an audience other than yours, collaboration is the way to go.
Consider cross-promotion with creators in a similar or complementary niche. This move will give both of you access to each other’s audiences.
This social proof gives you leverage over a wider audience, and an opportunity to increase your subscribers.

5. Call for Viewers’ Help

The YouTube platform normally equips videos with CTA (Call to Action) tools to request responses from viewers.
The “Like”, “Comment”, and “Subscribe” tabs directly speak to your users, requesting for their engagement.
You can also request help from your viewers from moments in your videos.

At the beginning of the video, you can request a “press the bell” icon for viewers’ notification of updates.
You can use the end to make a subtle request. Also, in the description, you could place a link, while urging viewers to follow the directives in the description.

6. Organize Your Videos into Playlists

A playlist is great for organizing your videos according to topics, or keywords. They are also strategic for keeping viewers longer with your videos.
You could also include videos of other channels. If the videos are appealing to your viewers, they stay longer and increase the session time in your channel.

7. Drive Traffic from Other Social Media Platforms

Promoting your videos through other social media platforms is a great way to increase viewership.
Particularly important is the first 24 hours after posting your videos. They have to be promoted through available means.
The reason is that engagement and social proof figures during those hours are very significant. They could influence how YouTube SERP places the video.

8. Excite Your Viewers with Free Giveaways

Viewers love free giveaways, especially those without any strings attached. You could offer tickets to a movie, coupon or gift card.
YouTubers with significant audiences usually partner with brands that offer free products or offers.

9. Create an Interesting Story

After all said and done, viewers will watch your videos to full length if they’re interesting.
They would even watch as many videos as possible on your channel. Keep your videos interesting and you’ll see the numbers adding up.

Conclusion

With billions of users on YouTube, there is great potential for video creators to build and engage their viewers.
There is the need first to grow a subscriber base, and with thousands of video hours uploaded daily, the competition seems stiff.

The picture isn’t that gloomy because an understanding of the YouTube algorithm brings you to a place of advantage. All you have to do is optimize your videos to get good SERP placements.

Great point in saying that while 2 billion logged-in monthly YouTube users is an impressive number, it can be easy to get lost in the crowd. Being able to get your videos noticed for free is pretty outstanding and I’m very impressed with your YouTube promotion guide. Algorithms are complex and yet highly instrumental when it comes to rankings, so being about to interpret these algorithms can provide for an edge. An interesting concept to consider is watch time relative to session time. I’m really interested in #1, Optimizing videos for Google traffic, as combining these two powerful engines could create an equally powerful campaign. Another great idea that sticks out especially is giving away free giveaways. I would ask, have you found any particularly great free giveaways in your travels? People always like a free giveaway and would keep coming back again and again for a chance. Thanks for the info and I’m looking forward to reading more!

Hey, a great post about ranking on Youtube and very helpful for every new video creator.
I started to create some videos in the past and post them on Youtube but I did not get ranked at all. I created a lot of tops about a lot of different things but it didn’t work. My subscribers did not grow and views too. So unfortunately I quitted and I think that it was not my best decision. Now, as I see your article about making your videos noticed on Youtube, I think that I will repost on my old channel taking into account your advice.
    Thank you a lot.
My opinion is that a lot of talented people in creating content, give up on Youtube because of they do not know these basics of ranking and this is sad.
    Wish you all the best.
