6 Powerful Apps You Can Leverage to Start a Side Hustle

By | October 29, 2019

Looking for a side hustle without undermining your current work schedule? There’s a stream of services and apps that can help you get started on time and without having to spend a dime.

Here are the top 6 apps and services that will enable you to get started with a highly-profitable side hustle:

1. Uber

Uber, a ride-sharing service, has become a common name and has revolutionized the transportation service industry as we all know. It connects passengers and drivers through its mobile app.

With Uber, drivers can earn extra money quickly leveraging their leisure and resources, while passengers are able to secure a ride whenever they want.

If you have a Smartphone, a sound car, and a genuine driving record, working for Uber could help run a side hustle and earn quick cash. Uber offers an easy schedule, giving an opportunity to drivers to get paid driving whenever they are free.

As a Uber driver, you can earn anything from $19 upwards per hour, depending on how much time you’re willing to give.

What you basically need to start with:

  • A smartphone
  • A driver’s license
  • Car insurance
  • A 4-door vehicle (every location must have its own vehicle requirements)
  • Must be above 21 years old
  • Vehicle registration

Drawbacks to note:

  • You’re responsible for the cost of your gas (though you are likely to be eligible for an IRS mileage discount)
  • Tear & wear on your car
  • Unexpected downtime between calls
  • Dealing with unruly passengers

2. Instacart

You’re probably used to visiting the grocery stores! Why not earn extra cash for doing so? With Instacart, you can get paid for doing just that. You can register to become a shopper + driver and have gigs assigned to you through their mobile app.

Leveraging the Instacart credit card, you can make the payment to buy and then have those items delivered to your customers. You have the option to select shifts that suffice your schedule. You can earn $10-$20 every hour.

What you need to start with:

  • A smartphone
  • A car
  • Ability to carry more than 30 pounds
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Patience to deal in locating and scanning items
  • Barricades to consider:
  • Dealing in products that aren’t always available
  • Having to carry heavy groceries
  • Tear and wear on your car
  • Likely low call volume

3. Postmates

Postmates is a highly-needed delivery app that connects customers with couriers. Clients may order snacks from their selected eatery and have them delivered direct to their doorsteps in less than one hour. The job of the courier is to pick-up the order at the eatery and deliver straight to apartments, residential homes, and offices.

You don’t have to be a car owner to be a postmate courier. You’re able to bike, walk, or drive as a courier and can earn anything from $25 upwards per hour. Just like other sharing economy mobile apps, you’re free to work at your leisure and keep to an easy schedule.

What you need to start with:

  • A bike (optional)
  • A smartphone
  • A car (optional)

Drawbacks to consider:

  • Far distances from pickup to delivery (most especially if you are biking or walking)
  • Low call volume

4. Handy

Do you have a passion for cleaning, or love fixing things in the house? Becoming a handyman or housecleaner leveraging Handy could be an amazing side hustle for you.

Handy connects clients with professionals in the area. Handy requires you having some paid experience. If you’re found to be experienced, you could be well rated. Based on the information on their site, handywomen (or handymen) can make anything from $45 upwards an hour, while housecleaners can make up to $22 or more an hour.

Leveraging Handy, experts can work based on their own schedule. In addition, payment is streamlined by having your earnings deposited into your bank account once the job is completed.

What you need to start with:

  • Cleaning supplies (if submitting an application as a cleaner)
  • A smartphone
  • Transportation
  • Previous experience
  • Tools (if submitting an application as a handyman)

Barricades to consider:

  • Based on availability
  • You bear the cost of supplies

5. DogVacay

Do you like playing with dogs more than playing with people? You have an opportunity to earn extra money from this. You can simply log on to DogVacay and sign up to become a sitter, helping to care for pooches at the owners’ absence.

Based on their size, age, and breed, you can decide which types of dogs you want to take care of. Being a sitter, you can set your own offerings and rates. Getting started, you must set up a profile, create your services and availability and start working.

The awesome news is that you can choose to care for pets either at the owner’s home or in your own residential home and offer a wide range of services such as overnight care, grooming, walking, and many more. You can earn from $20-$50 every night.

What you need to start with:

  • Pictures of your home, if you’re watching dogs there
  • A passion for dogs
  • A smartphone

Drawbacks to consider:

  • There is a 20% service fee
  • Based on availability in your area
  • High level of competition

6. OfferUp

You can leverage OfferUp, if you are willing to get paid de-cluttering and selling your used or unwanted items. You can simply download their mobile app for free on the Apple Store or Google Play.

The way it features is quite simple. You can photograph your items through the mobile app and get it listed in minutes. You may have to take pictures, get it uploaded and then wait. Leveraging the OfferUp offer, you can take pictures of your used items, craft a concise description and begin selling those items using your mobile phone.

The OfferUp app has user ratings for sellers and buyers, so you can ensure to have business dealings with users that are having positive ratings. You can dialogue with prospective buyers leveraging their secure chatting system in the mobile app.

What you need to start with:

Items to sell

A smartphone

Drawbacks to consider:

Potential for scammers and flakes

Market may change by location.

This day, your passion has become your key to making money without having a single regret of your action once its something you find fun doing. From the offers from these apps, it happens to be that you need to have passion for what you do to be able to keep up with it.  Personally i don’t like dealing with humans because of theirr diversity which o can hardly keep up with and that’s why i will go for Dogvacay anytime. With regards offer up, are you the one getting involved in the business directly with the buyer from the app?

In this challenging financial situation, it is a must to earn some extra money in our free time. Your post is providing solution to this problem.

Apart from Uber, I am not aware of the other 5 apps. So I got great insights from your post. OfferUp is interesting to me, it can clean up some space in my home at the same time it can make some money as well.

Being a dog lover DogVacay is on my list and I am thinking of to give Postmates a try as well. Thanks again for the valuable information. Thanks for the post I enjoyed it.

Having a number of income sources is something everyone wants.  I have been involved in such side hustles a couple of times for being a delivery person to being a tour guide and all that, and its been a really cool experience. Uber, happens to be one I have a great interest in, but not having a personal car then have been a barrier which holds me back. These are nice suggestions, but going by my gender, instacart is one I can fit perfectly into. Cheers

It’s really nice of you to share these 6 powerful apps, I’m a stay home mom and I can actually use some of these side hustles during the time I have to myself at least to buckle up a little cash and save up since it’s not gonna intrude on my time with my family. I can actually do these jobs cos they are not gender based and I’m happy to that, I’ll share your website to my friends and I know they’ll love it. Thank you so much for this.

I’m only familiar with Uber and I’m so excited that I am able to come across those other 5. I have come across many fake earning apps that are after wasting my time, asking me to share a link, claiming that I’d earn without doing a real job/offer services. All these applications require one to do real jobs and offer real services. Legit!
